In 1948, to comply with a new literacy law, Gordo undertakes the education of a simple farm girl named Cecila. And Gordo, being who he is, of course falls in love. The panel illustrating a lovestruck Gordo riding across clouds on his burro Horsepower, now graced with wings, is a a great example of both Arriola's elaborate daily work and how large newspaper strips once were.
