GORDO IN THE 1970s: March 1974

The 1970s! At the beginning of his fourth decade, both age and success start to catch up with Gordo. 

No longer a struggling farmer and occasional adventurer, our hero is now an affluent tour guide with a bustling business that keeps him tied down in Del Monte. His immediate circle is largely comprised of his indomitable housekeeper, Tehuana Mama, her grandson Trailing Arbutus, and Pepito's many pets, who reside in Gordo's care while Pepito is away at college.

Even his romantic escapades have cooled as Gordo embraces a partially domesticated middle age. By contrast, Arriola's humor is at its sharpest - from here on out, it's largely puns, ponderings, and urbane exchanges between the strip's multitude of supporting characters ...
