Newspaper Clippings: ROSS TWP. WOMAN WINS PUN QUIZ...
(From the Pittsburgh Press Mar 21, 1965)
Mrs. Clarence A. Eckert of West View, Pennsylvania, takes home a $100 prize for solving The Press Family Circus Sideshow pun contest, and breaking a tie with a winning paragraph on her favorite Press Family comic strip. What's the strip? Why -- it's Gordo!
In the paper's own words, they report that Mrs. Eckert submitted the following:
"When it's laughter I'm after, Gordo's south-of-the-border interpretations of contemporary life, sometimes satirical, always give me my peso's worth in mirth" was her subtle way of putting it.
The Press goes on to report:
How long has she been reading her "hero," Gordo?
"As long as The Press has had it," Mrs. Eckert answered, "When our newsboy, Fred Lickert, brings the paper, I read Gordo first."
A big shout-out to Fred!
