In all of Arriola's elaborate animal kingdom, even the Playworms have enemies -- the hard-working, industrious, always-on-the-clock ants. If Porfirio and Panchito can be said to have any adversaries in the enchanting pueblo of Del Monte, it's definitely their opposite numbers in the nearest anthill.
