GORDO IN THE 1970s: November 1974

Gordo's nephew Pepito returns from college in this series of strips from late 1974, and he's not alone. Mary Frances Sevier, a recurring character since the 1950s, tags along to catch up with the doings in Del Monte. "The Seven Cities of Cibola" refer to mythical cities of gold spread over what is now the southwestern US, just one of many mythological cities of gold broadly accredited to the Aztec Empire.
