GORDO IN THE 1970s: September - October 1974

The first strip of October -- featuring Poosy Gato following a sunbeam across the room -- is undeniably one of Arriola's most elegant executions. Gordo's feline foil often brought out the best in the cat-loving Arriola, such as with the superb cross-hatching and exployment of negative space defining Poosy's travels across the floor. There's also some fine and buoyant lettering in play, and a punchline for the ages to end the selection -- "Some days he thinks he can lick the world!"
